Springfield residents are invited to hear four-term Okahoma City mayor and author, Mick Cornett, speak Wednesday night at the Springfield Art Museum.
The author of “The Next American City” will share insights on how Springfieldians can shape the future of their city with the Forward SGF comprehensive planning process.
Cornett says he believes that mid-size cities, like Springfield “are the next dynamic and inventive urban centers of the future.”
Cornett is perhaps best known for helping Oklahoma City attract an NBA franchise and making changes for residents’ health in 2007 after the city made the list of the most obese cities in the U.S. Under his leadership, residents passed MAPS 3, an innovative $800 million investment in parks, urban transit, wellness centers and infrastructure that has dramatically reshaped Oklahoma City and enhanced the quality of life of its residents.
Forward SGF is an 18 to 24-month initiative that will result in a new comprehensive plan to map out Springfield’s future for the next 20 years.
Wednesday’s event will start at 7 in the art museum’s auditorium with networking and hors d'oeuvres at 6:30. Childcare will be provided.
The talk will be livestreamed.
