The 18th Annual Drug Take Back Day is Saturday, October 26, in the United States, and for the first time, the Drug Enforcement Administration will accept vaping devices and cartridges.  In a news release, the DEA says it’s “doing all it can to help dispose safely of vaping devices and liquids to get these products off our streets and out of the hands of kids.”

Other items that will be accepted include tablets, capsules, patches and other medications in solid forms.

The idea behind Drug Take Back Day is to remove medication from homes where they can be misused or stolen, including by children and teens.

In Springfield, drop off locations include CoxHealth Pharmacy, Grove Pharmacy, HyVee, Family Pharmacy, Orchard Hills Pharmacy, Dan’s Discount Drug Mart, Battlefield Pharmacy and Nixa Walgreens.

Since its inception, the DEA has collected a total of nearly 12 million pounds of expired, unused and unwanted prescription medications through its Take Back Day events.
