About a quarter of undergraduate women at the University of Missouri who responded to a survey from the Association of American Universities say they’ve experienced sexual assault or harassment while on campus. The AAU report released today as a part of the organizations nationwide survey on campus climate says while MU’s numbers remain largely unchanged, students are more aware of resources available to them.
Andy Hayes is the MU assistant vice chancellor for civil rights, title IX and ADA. She said MU has done a good job of raising awareness about assault and harassment but says more needs to be done.
“We did a good job of becoming very visible and talking about our office but we need to push the next step as to what happens once you report in our office,” Hayes said.
Hayes said the main reasons students don’t want to report assault or harassment is because they aren’t ready to talk about it or think they can handle it themselves.
