The Check-In: Going Back to School

KBIA

With everything else going on, it’s time to go Back to School.

Students are arriving on our college campuses, and Columbia Public Schools will also be returning to classrooms - either in person or online, Sept. 8th. That means students, teachers and parents are facing big decisions and it’s very hard to know where to turn.

Without a national collective response to this pandemic - state and local community leaders, school officials  and health directors - are all figuring it out as they go. Whether you’re a parent, a student or a school superintendent, it might be easy to feel - what former First Lady Michelle Obama called - “left in the lurch.”

On the Check-In today, we’re talking with the people on the frontlines of figuring all this out. We’ll get their views on how to navigate all these decisions and issues involved with going back to school.

And later in the hour we’ll talk with the author of one of the most Important books of the summer - Raven Leilani.

Our Guests:

Mallory McGowin, with the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.

Dr. Peter Stiepleman, Superintendent of Columbia Public Schools.

Stephanie Browning, Director of Columbia/Boone County Public Health & Human Services

Raven Leilani, Author of "Luster."

To hear the live show, tune in weekdays at noon. Also, you can leave us a voicemail at 877-532-0971 about how you are handling the isolation during the coronavirus pandemic.
