Global Journalist
[Ended] was Thursdays 6:30pm-7:00pm

Global Journalist, a 30-minute audio program focused on international issues and international journalism, ran for more than 20 years on KBIA and online. It was created by Stuart Loory, who worked as a foreign correspondent and editor for Chicago Sun-Times and CNN before joining the Missouri School of Journalism’s faculty as the inaugural Lee Hills Chair in Free-Press Studies.  Under Loory’s direction, the show featured well-known reporters from discussing issues from across the globe. The program later continued with a focus on under-covered issues with Jason McLure as its host.

The Lee Hills Chair in Free-Press Studies has partnered with MOSpace, the University of Missouri’s digital commons, to create an archive of Global Journalist’s programs, with special emphasis on the previously undigitized recordings of Loory’s shows.  The archive includes show transcripts (searchable by keyword), as well as .wav and .mp3 files available for download. The Lee Hills chair thanks MU’s Ellis Library, the Reynolds Journalism Institute, students from the Kinder Institute, and alumni of the Missouri School of Journalism for providing time and resources to make this important historical record available to a broader public.
