New Haven Elementary Is In the Running for A New Playground

Culturelle Probiotics Project Playground features one Columbia school. New Haven Elementary, are currently in 2nd place behind Abraham Wing School in New York. The winner will receive a $100,000 donation towards a new playground for their school.

Karla Yung, a teacher at New Haven Elementary, says she heard about the competition from a friend and decided to fill out.

“I had a group of kindergarteners last Thursday that said thank you for getting us a new playground. I said oh boys and girls I don’t have a new playground yet, but I’m working on it, and they said, “well thank you for trying”,” says Yung.

Principal Carole Garth says playground equipment is very expensive and this donation will be a big help.

“It’s really importan,t because playground equipment is super expensive, and it’s just not something that’s going to be feasible with our district or building financially for a long time,” says Garth.

The winner of the competition is expected to have the playground open for play by September 2018. Voting ends on March 16th.
