  • We'll see where the count stands after another day of competition at the London Olympics but after Thursday, the United States is at the top with the most medals. Renee Montagne has results of Thursday night's Olympics competition.
  • Forbes magazine has released its 25th annual billionaires list, and holding down the top spot again is Mexican telecom mogul Carlos Slim Helu. But there are some newcomers like American Sara Blakely. The 41-year-old founder of Spanx, the body-shaping undergarment company, is the youngest self-made woman to join the club.
  • The city council passed a law banning pants or skirts that expose more than 3 inches of undergarments or skin. But in the hipster heaven of Williamsburg, Brooklyn, no one would be caught dead in baggy pants. The new website Styleblaster is capturing skinny jeans and slim fits with its webcam on the main drag. Viewers can rate passersby with a click on an old-fashioned top hat.
  • Ryan Crocker will depart in mid-summer "for health reasons," the State Department confirms. He has been the top U.S. diplomat in Afghanistan since July 2011.
  • The Associated Press says in an exclusive that 94-year-old Michael Karkoc was a top commander in SS units that massacred civilians in Ukraine and Poland.
  • NASA's Cassini spacecraft focused on one of the planet's poles, and produced an image that resembles a hand-painted Christmas ornament. There's also a new photo of Saturn's largest moons that makes it appear they're stacked on top of each other.
  • Google Street View cars have been photographing roads and highways for years, but how about this: Google Beach View. Florida is paying a pair of intrepid trekkers to walk all 825 miles of the state's beachfront carrying the Google Eye camera in a 40 pound backpack — blue orb sticking out the top.
  • A group of men in Germany tried to beat the summer heat by converting an open-top BMW into a pool — complete with tiki decorations and still drivable. The fun dried up when they passed a motorcycle cop. They pulled over, abandoned the vehicle and jumped into a nearby river. The investigation is still ongoing, but the police did say this car pool probably didn't have a road permit.
  • In a nonpartisan race in which two Democrats were the top contenders, the city councilman has edged out City Controller Wendy Greuel.
  • Justin Bieber's video for "Baby" is no longer the most viewed video on YouTube. The new record-holder is "Gangnam Style" by South Korean rapper PSY, which topped 820 million views this weekend. Then, Sunday, Bieber played a halftime concert at Canadian football's championship game — and was booed by the crowd. Keeping his cool, Bieber called out, "Thank you so much, Canada."
