Paul Pepper: Brittany Whitley, MOST Policy Initiative & Scott Bradley, Carpet One Floor and Home
MOST Policy Initiative's BRITTANY WHITLEY introduces us to LSEN, or Local Science Engagement Network, an outreach arm of MOST that encourages people in the community (that care about science) to establish a dialogue with their local and state lawmakers. Plus, get details on an upcoming virtual event about food deserts. Also, with cold weather on the way, Carpet One Floor and Home's SCOTT BRADLEY shares a high-tech way to keep your feet warm while walking around your house. (4:36) October 28, 2021
Paul Pepper: Storyteller Larry Brown, "The House at the End of the Street"
"It was sort of maybe the tradition that the older kids would challenge the younger kids and say, 'I dare you to go some night to the house'. Well, it so happened that that particular fall, Bernie and his best friend Scrub were indeed challenged by some older junior high kids to go to that house." -- 'The House at the End of the Street' by storyteller LARRY BROWN October 29, 2021
Paul Pepper: Cary Skelton, RDN, "Dietary Fiber" & Ann Bickel, Missouri Coalition for Quality Care
Eat your fiber! That's the main takeaway from our chat with CARY SKELTON, RDN, LD, Missouri Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics. She says women, on average, need 25 grams and men need 38 grams of dietary fiber every day. (Most of us just eat 10 grams.) Also, ANN BICKEL joins us from Missouri Coalition for Quality Care to remind us that October is Residents' Rights Month. "We believe that anyone who gets care, should receive good care." (5:05) October 21, 2021
Paul Pepper: The Spay Neuter Project's "Pit Stop" & Nclusion Plus' all-day Halloween Bash
The Spay Neuter Project executive director JANEENE JOHNSTON says her organization is showing some extra special love this month to the pitbulls and pit mixes in our community. Find out more about what they're calling a 'Pit' Stop. Also, Nclusion Plus' BRANDON BANKS and ANTHONY PLOGGER invite everyone to experience All Hallows Eve the LGBTQIA+ way: with a drag show (featuring Maxi Glamour and the "midwest Michael Jackson") and so much more! All ages welcome until 5:00. (3:50) October 22, 2021
Paul Pepper: Dorreen Rardin and Joe Muscato, MD, "Lights for Love: A Memorial Event"
Caring Hearts and Hands of Columbia wants you to "celebrate the life of a loved one" next month at Stephens Lake Park in Columbia. Lights for Love: A Memorial Event will feature a program, music, and the luminaries as a tribute to those we've lost over the past couple of years. All proceeds will go towards the construction of a permanent home for CHHC. Guests: DORREEN RARDIN and DR. JOE MUSCATO October 18, 2021
Paul Pepper: Missouri Symphony League's Brunch and Style Show & Maples Rep Theatre opens "Ripcord"
Help kick off a 'Columbia holiday tradition' by attending the Taste of Holiday Home Tour Brunch and Style Show next Saturday at the Country Club of Missouri! This year's event will feature a fashion show, a performance from Ed Hanson, a silent auction and more. Guests: JOLENE SCHULZ and JULIA GAINES | Also, BRIDGET GRACE SHEAFF joins us from Maples Repertory Theatre in Macon to tell us about Ripcord, a "very charming and very funny" show that opens this Wednesday and runs for two weeks! (4:16)
Paul Pepper: Dr. Philip Batson, Columbia Healthy Smiles, "Good Dental Health Month"
October is Good Dental Health Month, and who better to talk about good dental health than our very own DR. PHILIP BATSON from Columbia Healthy Smiles. Dr. Batson covers the basics (brush at least twice a day!) and the not-so-basic (dry mouth is "detrimental" to teeth!). He also has some advice for parents whose kids plan to go trick-or-treating this weekend. October 26, 2021
Paul Pepper: Carolyn Amparan, Columbia's Climate and Environment Commission
"You really don't have to change your lifestyle in order to get on board and help us achieve our goals to reduce emissions." -- CAROLYN AMPARAN, chair of Columbia's Climate and Environment Commission, an advisory board that works with the city to help implement the ongoing Climate Action and Adaptation Plan August 2, 2021
Paul Pepper: Jane Williams and Krista Jones, Love Columbia, "Over the Edge 2021"
Deep breath, everybody, it's back: Over the Edge - Love Columbia's popular fundraiser - is happening this October, and guests JANE WILLIAMS and KRISTA JONES are hoping it raises more than $70K for our less-fortunate neighbors. "We have a lot of people in Columbia who live on the edge, that's why we gravitated towards this event." August 3, 2021
Paul Pepper: Dave Lineberry and Megan McConachie, CoMo 200 & Elizabeth Curran, Stage Right Theatre
Columbia's bicentennial celebrations are going to "keep on rolling" into the fall! DAVE LINEBERRY and MEGAN McCONACHIE tell us what CoMo 200 has in store for everyone as the calendar turns to September and beyond. Also, ELIZABETH CURRAN is hoping you'll come see Stage Right Theatre Co.'s production of 'The Saga of the Golden Horseshoe', a "thrilling western" directed by Elizabeth and Jon Staples.
