Candidate Filing Opens In St. Louis With New Rules And New Precautions
Candidates for mayor, comptroller and odd-numbered wards at the Board of Aldermen could begin filing the required paperwork to run for office Monday. The 2021 election will be the first under new rules established by the passage of Proposition D on Nov. 3. The posts are now nonpartisan, and voters can select as many candidates as they want in the March primary, a process known as approval voting. The top two advance to the April general election.

Obama Heads To Hollywood; Conservative Group Mocks 'Celebrity President'
On Thursday, some of Hollywood's top stars and deepest pockets will congregate at the Studio City, Calif., home of actor George Clooney to mingle with President Obama and raise money for his re-election campaign. At least one conservative group is deriding Obama as a "celebrity president."
'New York Times' Replaces Jill Abramson As Executive Editor
Dean Baquet, the paper's managing editor, will become The Times' first African-American executive editor. Abramson's departure was reportedly related to "an issue with management in the newsroom."
Bush Eyes Privatizing Social Security in Second Term
President Bush says reforming social security will be a top priority during his second term. He wants workers to be able to divert some of their payroll taxes into private accounts. They could invest that money in stocks and bonds to save for their own retirement. NPR's Kathleen Schalch reports on what privatization could mean, and how it might be done.
