Kelly Announces Intent to Run for Columbia Mayor

Chris Kelly

Former State Representative Chris Kelly has announced his intent to run for Columbia mayor in the upcoming April 2019 election.

Kelly has served as a State Representative under the Missouri House of Representatives 23rd District from 1982 – 1994, and again under the 45th District from 2009 – 2015.

Teresa Maledy, former Commerce bank President, will serve as his Campaign Chair.  Natalie Krawitz, former University of Missouri Vice – President for Finance and Administration and Chief Financial Officer, will serve as Kelly’s Treasurer.

Kelly said he will operate his campaign under increased support for infrastructure and more trust.

“My work in the legislature, I spent an awful lot of time on infrastructure,” Kelly said. “Some of the major problems facing the city is to update and modernize its infrastructure. I have a lot of experience in that area.”

Kelly, who has yet to lose an election, said while this race is different, many things are the same.

“It’s the same people I’ve been representing for many, many years and I know them pretty well and they know me pretty well,” Kelly said. “The question is, can we reconnect?”

Kelly will be joining opponent, Christopher Farnam, a member associate at the Missouri Chamber of Commerce, as a candidate for Columbia Mayor.

Editor's Note:  An earlier version of this article suggested Columbia's current mayor, Brian Treece, may not run for reelection. He has since filed for candidacy.
