Olathe Health, parent of Olathe Medical Center and other medical groups, has named an Arizona health care executive as its new president and CEO.
Stan Holm, currently CEO of Abrazo West in Goodyear, Arizona, a suburb of Phoenix, will replace Frank Devocelle, who is retiring after 47 years with Olathe Health, 43 of them as its CEO.
Devocelle is one of the longest-tenured hospital CEOs in the country. He made more than $1 million in 2016.
Holm assumes his new positions on Nov. 1. In addition to Olathe Medical Center, he will oversee Miami County Medical Center and Olathe Health Physicians, which operates approximately 40 clinics in the metropolitan area.
Olathe Medical, which is licensed for 300 beds, reported more than $275 million in revenue in 2016, the last year for which figures are available. Less expenses, its revenues were $54 million.
Begun as a community hospital in 1953 with 30 beds, it has grown into a sprawling health network with some 300 physicians and more than 2,500 employees.
It recently opened a new, 25,000-square-foot cancer center, the largest expansion in its history. And in the last few years it has expanded its hospital campus by adding a new memory care unit; a Level II neonatal intensive care unit; and an expanded cardiovascular unit.
Holm, an Oklahoma native, led hospital systems in Florida, Oklahoma, Tennessee and Texas before joining Abrazo West, which is owned and run by Tenet Healthcare, in 2013. He has a master of science degree in healthcare administration from the University of Oklahoma.
Olathe Health is the third major area hospital network to hire a CEO this year. In March, Overland Park Regional Medical Center, part of HCA Midwest Health, named Matt Sogard to succeed Kevin J. Hicks. A few weeks later, Shawnee Mission Health, which operates Shawnee Mission Medical Center, hired Sam Huenergardt, who had been CEO of Parker Adventist Hospital in Parker, Colorado. He replaced Ken Bacon, who left to lead a hospital group in Denver.
