2 die in crash on ice-covered north-central Missouri highway

Authorities say two people have died after a crash on an ice-covered highway in north-central Missouri.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol identified the victim as 47-year-old Larry G. McAtee, of Milan, and 55-year-old Lesa Vanvelzer, of Greencastle. The patrol says McAtee lost control of his pickup truck Monday morning on Missouri 6. The truck then slid into the path of a sport utility vehicle that Vanvelzer was driving about six miles east of the Sullivan County town of Milan.

The patrol says the coroner pronounced McAtee dead about 25 minutes later. Vanvelzer was rushed to a hospital with serious injuries and died of her injuries Monday night.
