Mercy Hospital in Springfield will offer a limited amount of free mammograms during the Pink Lighting Ceremony event on Monday, October 1.

Mercy Springfield will offer a limited number of free mammograms to uninsured women 40 and older during their annual Pink Lighting Ceremony Monday, October 1. The event welcomes in Breast Cancer Awareness Month this October.

Breast cancer survival rates have been steadily increasing over the years, likely as a result of early detection and better treatments, according to Mercy. Yearly mammograms and regular self-examinations have helped push these survival rates higher, and free screenings are a way to remind women of the importance of screenings.

Doctors from Mercy Hospital will share the latest information on risk factors, screening guidelines and breast cancer treatments during the lighting ceremony.

The lighting ceremony will be held Monday night at 6:30 at the main entrance of Mercy Hospital Springfield. Interested individuals can call 417-820-2790 prior to the event to schedule a free mammogram.

Once mammogram appointments during the event are full, Mercy Hospital will continue to work with the Breast Cancer Foundation of the Ozarks to offer additional free screenings throughout October.
