Although online shopping can be convenient and fast, shoppers using the internet for holiday sales this season should be cautious, says David Burton, county engagement specialist and community development specialist with University of Missouri Extension.

  • Make sure to get the details – such as phone numbers and physical addresses – of online vendors in case you need to contact them.
  • Pay with credit card, which can give you extra protection under the Fair Credit Billing Act and keep records of your purchases.
  • And protect your information:  do not give out sensitive information via email, and make sure the website you’re purchasing from is secure.
