The United Way of the Ozarks has set a goal of $3 million for this year’s campaign.

The organization, which serves 22 nonprofits in 14 counties, held a superhero-themed campaign rally and kickoff event Monday at Jordan Valley Ice Park.

The United Way funds organizations that address education, health and financial stability issues.

United Way president and CEO, Greg Burris, said they chose a superhero theme because the organizations they serve and those who donate deserve that label.

"So, you can apply that to the partner agencies that do this outstanding work in our community but also our citizens--they're superheroes," Burris said.  "And people wonder, 'how can I make a difference?  A $3 million dollar goal sounds lofty, and that's a big number.'  It is, but every dollar truly makes a difference."

The United Way works with employers and employees, largely in Greene County, to allow donations through payroll deduction.

Last year’s goal was $3 million as well, and the organization raised $2.6 million.

Burris said this year they’ll work to raise funds outside Greene County, and they’ll reach out to retirees.

The campaign continues through the end of the year.
