Next month, the Missouri Symphony Society will kickoff its annual Hot Summer Nights music festival. This year’s lineup features over 20 performances, spanning a variety of genres. That list includes traditional classical and opera, as well as more contemporary fare, including tributes to Michael Jackson and Elton John. There’ll also be a number of kid-friendly events, including one that draws upon the connections between pizza and music.
This type of diverse lineup is becoming more common across the country, as symphonies attempt to court a younger audience to remain financially stable. This week on Intersection, we’ll talk about the future of symphony orchestras, and get a preview of this year’s Hot Summer Night Festival.
Panelists:
Kirk Trevor, artistic director, Hot Summer Nights Music Festival
Chris Campbell, executive director, Missouri Symphony Society
