For the first time in 10 years, Moberly'sSafe Passage Domestic Violence Center did not receive a grant from the Missouri Housing Development Commission

The center has been using these funds to pay half of the operation expenses, such as utilities, internet and phone. Co-director of the Moberly center Kelly Pedigo says she is not sure why the grant was rejected.

“We really don’t have any information as to why we were cut,” she says.

Last year, the center received more than $19,000 from the commission. Without that money, the center will have a gap in its general operation budget this year. Now, it's looking for other funding sources.

“Whether or not it’s going to happen, you know, it’s still far off,” Pedigo says. “Any of the funding would have to go through the legislation process, so we are just waiting.”

Pedigo said the commission has not said why the grant was rejected.
