Flags surround church in honor of fallen soldier Sterling Wyatt

The Patriot Guard placed flags around First Baptist Church on Broadway in downtown Columbia in preparation for the funeral of Spc. Sterling Wyatt.

Wyatt died July 11 while on duty in Afghanistan. Groups of supporters lined the streets of Columbia Thursday during a procession from Columbia Regional Airport to Wyatt's home.

Two Facebook events urge community members to wear red shirts and form a human wall around the church Saturday in honor of the fallen soldier. More than 5,000 people have responded that they will come.

Wyatt's funeral will be Saturday afternoon at 1. The wall of people in red shirts is expected to form around 11:30 in the morning.

KBIA will be on the scene reporting on human wall. Follow the event on Twitter @KBIA and @ColumbiaFAVS, and watch for a story later.

This story was produced in partnership with ColumbiaFAVS, a local faith and values news website set to launch the week of July 23 and KBIA's newest media partner.
