Legislating Crisis Management Powers | Fashion Week Returns

Segment 1, beginning at 1:00: With the pandemic in its second year, lawmakers in Kansas and Missouri worked to limit the power of certain officials at the state and local levels to take emergency actions during a public health crisis.

The Kansas Legislature passed Senate Bill 40 which curbs the governor and other state officials' power to declare emergency measures. Meanwhile a similar bill, with provisions to do the same for county officials in Missouri, died this last week in the legislature.

Segment 2, beginning at 27:26: Kansas City Fashion Week, a decade-old event, returns this year with virtual offerings.

Last year was bittersweet for KCFW as festivities were postponed just days after lockdown orders were initiated in the Kansas City area. This year however, the confluence of art and design will be accessible virtually with limited in-person viewing as well.

Kansas City Fashion Week is offering limited passes to the runway filming sessions April 7-8, 2021 in addition to passes to view the virtual runway show April 29-May 1, 2021. For more information and to purchase tickets visit kcfashionweek.com.
