St. Louis voters on April 6 will choose the city’s next mayor and candidates to fill a host of other elected city offices. Now that the expanded options for absentee voting added last year to prevent the spread of the coronavirus are no longer in place, most voters will need to cast their ballots in person.
Here’s what you need to know about voting in the upcoming election.
Polls on Election Day open at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m., though you can still cast a ballot after that as long as you’re in line to vote before 7 p.m.
Find your poll location on the city's Board of Election website.
The deadline to request a mailed absentee ballot has passed, but registered city voters can still cast absentee ballots in person at the St. Louis Board of Election Commissioners' downtown headquarters at 300 N. Tucker or at two satellite locations: Better Family Life at 5415 Page Blvd. in north city and Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church at 4092 Blow St. in south city. Absentee ballots can be turned in up until 4 p.m. April 5 at the satellite locations or until 7 p.m. on election night at the headquarters.
You are eligible to cast an absentee ballot if you expect any of the following criteria would prevent you from voting in person on Election Day:
- Incapacity or confinement due to illness or disability.
- Employment as an election authority.
- Absence from your election jurisdiction (notary required).
- Religious belief or practice (notary required).
- Being incarcerated, provided all qualifications for voting are retained (notary required).
- Being a certified participant in Missouri’s address confidentiality program (notary required).
Ballots can be notarized at any of the board of election locations.
All poll locations will have curbside voting on Election Day. Call the Board of Elections at 314-622-4336 for special instructions to vote curbside.
If you have been diagnosed with COVID-19 or been exposed to the coronavirus, do not break quarantine to vote in person.
The St. Louis Board of Election Commissioners keeps a list of registered voters whose mailing addresses may be recorded inaccurately. Voters must update their addresses each time they move within city limits. Check the list here to see if you need to update your voter registration.
If you’re on the inactive voter list, you can still vote on Election Day, but you will need to go through more steps at the polling site first.
