Missouri on Mic

A team of Missouri School of Journalism students will be asking Missourians these and other questions at several bicentennial festivals and events this summer and recording oral stories at the Missouri on Mic traveling audio booth.

KBIA News listeners will have a chance to hear some of these Missouri on Mic stories this fall. The stories will also appear in short trailers at Ragtag Cinema later in the year. The collection of stories will be archived at the State Historical Society of Missouri as part of Missouri’s 200th anniversary of Statehood.

Hey, Missouri! You’re turning 200 this year. And we want to hear from all Missourians.

What comes to mind when you think of Missouri? What does being a Missourian mean to you, and what has living in Missouri meant to you? What is your hope for the future of our state?

This summer, we’re bringing our mobile studio to you with Missouri on Mic so you can answer these questions and more about the Show Me State. Let us know what Missouri means to you!

To participate, all you have to do is drop in to our audio booth at festivals and events throughout the state this summer.

Our next stop:

  • Saturday, August 7: Together for ’21 Fest, Missouri’s bicentennial festival at the Center for Missouri Studies and the University of Missouri-Columbia campus
  • Tuesday, August 10: Jefferson City for Statehood Day at the State Capitol
  • Friday, August 13: The Missouri State Fair

It’s free, no audio skills are required – we’ll take care of that – and you are welcome to bring a relative, friend or companion to record with. Drop-ins and walk-ins are very welcome, but you can also sign up in advance by emailing News@KBIA.org. Put Missouri on Mic in the subject line.

You’ll also find us traveling around the state at bicentennial festivals this summer, so stay tuned! To learn more about Missouri on Mic or contact us, call the KBIA Newsroom at 573.882.4032
