The Anthem Healthcare data breach was announced several days ago. According to Missouri Anthem Healthcare spokesperson Deb Wiethop, the company is in the process of identifying those who had their data hacked.

There are 1.2 million people who use Anthem Healthcare in Missouri. The company's website says that names, addresses and Social Security numbers were some of the multiple aspects of personal information taken from some customers.

However, Wiethop said the outcome could have been worse.

"It's very concerning, and it's very upsetting," Wiethop said. "Obviously, if somebody has your name, address, and Social Security number—it's a problem. Again, if there's a bright side, no credit card numbers and no medical information has been taken."

More than 80 million customers nationwide could be at risk of having their information hacked. Reports have shown the data breach was a result of a cyber attack.

Wiethop said Anthem will be sending out individual letters to customers who have had their data breached. Customers are asked to avoid replying to any email that asks them to compromise their personal information.

Missouri is one of the 14 states that houses Anthem Healthcare customers. Reports have not given a timeline as to when the exact number of customers who were hacked will be known.
