An attorney from northeast Missouri has been appointed to the state Highways and Transportation Commission.
Gov. Jay Nixon on Friday announced the appointment of John Briscoe for a term running until March 2021.
Briscoe is a Democrat who has law offices in Hannibal and New London. He served as the Ralls County prosecutor from 1972 to 1980 and again from 1991 to 2004. He also previously served on the Board of Governors of Truman State University.
Briscoe replaces Springfield attorney Joe Carmichael, whose term ended in March but has continued to serve as allowed by state law.
The term for Commission Chairman Stephen Miller ended in 2011, but he also has continued to serve because Nixon has not appointed a replacement.
Briscoe's appointment is subject to Senate confirmation.
