The pharmacy benefit management company Express Scripts has committed $2.5 million toward scholarships and programs at the University of Missouri-St. Louis, with much of the money aiding needy students from north St. Louis County.

The company announced the commitment Thursday. Express Scripts' corporate offices are on the UMSL campus.

Scholarships of $15,000 apiece will be for students from high schools in north St. Louis County, including several schools in high-poverty areas.

The donation is expected to pay for up to 20 scholarships each year for five years. It will also benefit UMSL's Bridge Program, which helps prepare St. Louis-area students for college and careers.
