A Springfield Republican lawmaker has proposed a measure aimed at keeping school bus stops away from the homes of registered sex offenders.
The Springfield News-Leader reports the bill proposed Tuesday by Rep. Sonya Anderson would require school bus stops in Missouri to be located at least 500 feet from the residence of a registered sex offender.
Anderson said in a release that she filed the bill after a constituent told her his children waited for their school bus in front of a home where a sex offender lived.
Under the measure, school officials would have to notify parents if they couldn't find an alternative for a bus stop located next to a sex offender's residence.
