A grain-handling operation is being planned in Caldwell County.
The project is a joint venture of MFA Inc., a grain marketing and farm supply cooperative based in Columbia, Missouri, and MFA Oil, a farmer-owned energy supply cooperative.
The project announced Thursday will be built on Union Pacific track about 4 miles east of Hamilton, Missouri. It will cost between $27 million and $28 million.
The St. Joseph News-Press reports the operation will allow 2 million bushels of permanent storage and 1.5 million bushels of temporary storage, along with a rail siding to accommodate a 110-railroad car unit. MFA says the plant will offer an efficient way to send northwest Missouri and southwest Iowa grain to the Gulf region.
The project is scheduled to open in the summer of 2017.
