Truman State University in Kirksville is searching for a new president after Troy Paino, the previous president, left to work for the University of Mary Washington in Virginia.
Debra Kerby, one of the co-chairs of the Presidential Search Committee, said the advertisement for the new position came out in early September and details what the presidential search committee is looking for when selecting a new president
The advertisement appears in The Chronicle of Higher Education, Women in Higher Education, Diverse Issues in Higher Education, The Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education and Inside Higher Ed.
“The search is progressing and we are encouraging applications from qualified external and internal candidates,” Kerby said.
Cheryl Cozette, the other co-chair of the presidential search committee and member of The Board of Governors, said the search is on track and is going as planned.
Cozette said The Board of Governors will ultimately make the appointment of the new president but the choice will be based on feedback from the search committee, the community at large, and the university community.
“We really do want to make sure that everybody feels like they are a part of this process because this new president is someone that will work with all people, not just people on campus and not just The Board of Governors,” Cozette said.
According to the Truman State University website, the school currently enrolls 6,200 students, employs over 700 faculty and staff, has an annual budget of $122 million and has consistently been ranked as one of the top universities in the Midwest regional category by U.S. News & World Report.
The presidential search committee last met October 27.
Kerby said the committee plans to meet in December to narrow down the applicant pool, but they have yet to review any submissions. The Board of Governors indicated they would like to announce the new president by early March 2017.
