COLUMBIA -- The University of Missouri will honor the nine MU students who have died since April 2016 in a ceremony Friday afternoon.

The MU Remembers ceremony will honor Emily Bamberger, Dariana Byone, Monica Hand, Caden Hastie, Kyle Hirsch, Kendall Overton, Tyler Romaker, Kelly White and R. Peyton White.

The event is put on each year by the Missouri Students Association and the Graduate Professional Council.

This year the event will begin with remarks from Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs Catherine Scroggs followed by a remembrance of each student submitted by friends or family.

MSA President Nathan Willett will read a small biography of each undergraduate student and GPC President Rachel Bauer will read for the graduates.

Willett said this ceremony comes at a critical point in the semester.

“Everyone is so busy especially towards the end of the year but this really helps put things in perspective,” he said.

Willett also said this event provides closure for friends and family by cementing the legacy of those who died.

“We have a limited time here at Mizzou, we have limited time here on this Earth, and I think that we need to pay tribute to the great things of people who passed away and bond over that as a student body,” Willett said.

The ceremony will take place in Stotler Lounge in Memorial Union on Friday at 2 p.m.
