Southern Boone Area YMCA recently received a large donation to help with building a new facility in Ashland.

University of Missouri Healthcare donated $450,000 to assist in building the new complex.

The building will include a fitness center, group exercise room, multipurpose room and a child watch room.

Kip Batye, branch director for the YMCA, says that support from MU Healthcare has been critical for the project.

“We opened our doors in 2015 here and we’ve already outgrown our space which is why we purchased the land to build a larger YMCA, said Batye. “But without MU Therapy, MU Healthcare we wouldn’t be as successful as we are.”

Construction on the building is set to begin in 2020. The YMCA has a goal of raising $2.8 million for the first phase of the project.
