In Boonville, Missouri, the Red Cross has opened a shelter at the Boonville Open Bible Praise Center to aid individuals and families displaced by recent flooding.
The Praise Center had been on standby for the Red Cross for the past eight years, and was activated as a shelter Saturday.
Franklin resident Brandon Blackwell on Tuesday afternoon was taking refuge at the shelter with his wife and two children. Blackwell’s house was right across the street from the levee at the intersection of Route Z and Highway 87 that broke on Saturday afternoon.
“Well we have to find somewhere else to live, you know what I mean?” said Blackwell. “Trying to save our money up, and luckily we’re able to stay here, because otherwise we’d have to go get a motel room, and buy food, but it’s a blessing.”
“That’s what the Red Cross does,” said Shelter Manager Candy Hart. “We come in in disaster situations and we try to make it better. We try to put a glimmer of hope.”
