Without available substitute teachers, Montgomery Middle School switches to online instruction

Montgomery Middle School is switching to virtual learning until Nov. 13.

In a letter to parents, Montgomery County R-II District Superintendent Tracy Bottoms said the move is necessary because a middle school staff member tested positive for COVID-19, exposing other staffers and forcing them to quarantine.

"COVID-19 has brought many new struggles and challenges to our students, staff, and community. The district continues to work with Montgomery County Health Department to ensure the health and safety of our students and staff," Bottoms wrote.

Bottoms said the district does not have enough substitute teachers to fill in for those staying at home, and will reevaluate the situation next Thursday to determine if an extended closure is necessary.
