Missouri House of Reps passes stricter child abuse reporting laws

As Jerry Sandusky stands trial in a Pennsylvania courthouse, the Missouri House of Representatives is looking to make sure similar incidents never happen here.

The same day that former Penn State football coach Jerry Sanduksy appears in a Pennsylvania courthouse, the Missouri House passes stricter mandatory reporting laws.  St. Louis County representative Marsha Haefner sponsored the amendment and serves on the Governor’s task force for prevention of child abuse.

“It will not allow employers, such as school districts or any other entities that work with children to prohibit employees from doing a mandated report if they suspect child abuse or neglect,” said Haefner.

If passed in the Senate, the bill will head to the Governor’s desk.
