Missouri transportation officials are considering a proposal to restructure how much MoDOT workers and State Troopers pay for their life and health insurance.
Currently, the cost percentage varies, based on several individual factors. Rudolph Farber chairs the state Highways and Transportation Commission. He says the proposal they’re considering would have all employees pay the same percentage.
“Whether you are a single retiree or whether you are a retiree with a family, the thought on the commission is that you should be paying the same percentage toward that cost, whatever that cost may happen to be," Farber said.
More discussions are planned before the commission votes on the plan, which is expected sometime before November.
“Some would pay more and some would pay less, but at least it would be uniform," Farber said. "The way it is now, it really doesn’t make a great deal of sense, at least to me.”
