Rep. Vicky Hartzler talks sequestration to Columbia Rotary Club

Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler addressed the Columbia Rotary club today to discuss her ideas about how to address the national debt.

Hartzler believes spending plans need a vast renovation if Congress wants to improve the economy. In 10 days, congress could approve the sequester, which will cut funding for schools, medical research, and military defense in order to lower the deficit. Hartzler believes there are other ways around these cuts that would have a more positive impact on the economy.

“Now is not the time that we should be cutting back our national defense, plus we are still at war and we have many men and women in harm’s way," said Hartzler. " So it concerns me a great deal that we could be hallowing out our national defense and putting aside our primary duty as congress to provide for the common defense.”

Hartzler also suggests finding cuts in other areas of the government where there are duplicative programs.
