The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) yesterday notified airport manager Don Elliott that the Air Traffic Control Tower at Columbia Regional Airport would be unfunded as of May 5.

Columbia Public Works spokesperson Steven Sapp told KBIA last week that, without the tower, the airport will rely on Springfield-based Mizzou Approach Control for landing and departure communications.

The tower is one of 149 nationwide that will lose funding due to federal sequestration.
