In Jefferson City, the downtown watch parties for the Second and Third Ward city council candidates were small, but the support was evident.
Ken Hussey hosted his watch party at J.P Fenny’s Sports Bar and Pub on High Street, where friends and family gathered watching election results on television.
He emerged as the victor, with 70 percent of the vote according, to KRCG TV. Hussey said he’s glad to have the support of the Third Ward and he’s ready to get to work to help move Jefferson City forward.
“I think it starts with just being open and honest in the budgeting process, making sure the financials are shared with the public," Hussey said.
He ran against Len Stella, who took 30 percent of the votes, according to KRCG’s results.
Councilmember Bryan Pope did not seek re-election, leaving the seat open to new candidates.
In the Second Ward, Blake Markus lost to incumbent Councilmember Shawn Schulte by just 55 votes according KRCG’s count. Markus held his watch party at Capitol City Cork and Provisions, downtown.
"I think it says to me people here are ready for a change. Maybe I wasn’t the one or maybe now’s not the time.” Markus said.
Despite the loss, Markus said he plans on running again in the future.
