Nichols to Step Down as MODOT Director

Missouri Department of Transportation

Missouri's director of transportation Dave Nichols will step down at the beginning of May.

The Missouri Department of Transportation said Thursday Nichols plans to resign May 1st. Nichols has been director since April 2013.

Nichols has worked at the department for 30 years, including as the first director of program delivery and as chief engineer for two years.

The announcement comes a day after the state's transportation commission approved a scaled-back maintenance plan that will keep only one-quarter of Missouri's 32,000 miles of roads in top condition starting in 2017.

The Missouri Highways and Transportation Commission will soon begin looking for a replacement.
