The July Show-Me State Games kicked off Friday at various locations across Columbia. While some games were held indoors, many sports required players to compete outside during the biggest heat wave of the summer.
Among the outdoor events was a soccer tournament that began Saturday at Cosmo Park. Throughout the day, players ran up and down the fields trying the score while their parents took to the shade.
Parents who planned ahead brought pop-up tents and coolers, while the rest tried to find shade where they could.
