Incumbent District 47 State Representative Chuck Basye has won a final term as state representative against opponent Adrian Plank.
Basye, a Republican from Rocheport, was elected in 2014, defeating John Wright and successfully defending his seat in every election since. He and Plank previously faced off in the 2018 midterms, with Plank losing by a margin of about 2,000 votes. This year’s election was not as close; Basye held 10,825 votes at the end of the night, while Plank held 8,045, for a margin of 2,780.
Basye said he is grateful for the support from mid-Missouri voters and that he will help the district regardless of whether or not they voted for him.
“I encourage people, no matter if they supported me or not, to call my office or email me if they need any help so that I can try and help,” Basye said.
Basye said his first priority when returning to office will be reintroducing a bill that would allow parents of special needs children record school district meetings that have to do with special education. He introduced the bill last session and it made it through the House and Senate, but he said the Senate version had a number of amendments which caused it to fail.
“That’s going to be my number one priority and I’ll push on that bill very, very hard,” Basye said.
