Boone County Begins Gravel Road Improvements

Residents from Centralia to Hartsburg can expect better looking gravel roads in the near future. That’s because Boone County Road & Bridge will be starting their annual chip and seal re-application on Monday morning. Director Greg Edington says that weather-permitting, the process is expected to go smoothly.

“Just bear with us, I think we’re starting off in the Northwest quadrant of the county and then working our way to the Southeast quadrant," Edington said. "So hopefully we get a chunk of it done in the first two weeks.”

Crews will begin work at 9 a.m. next Monday. The project will take about three weeks but could be delayed by rain. According to the department, there may be temporary road closures and delays, but each improvement will only take around 10 to 15 minutes. The department is applying chipping and sealing product to about 22 miles of road around the county. These particular 22 miles are chosen by a cycle designed to provide these improvements in an efficient and cost-effective manner.
