Off the Clock: Veterans writing, and a women's roller derby team

This week on KBIA’s arts and culture segment Off the Clock,  KBIA's Jenn Cooper spent time with Mark  Olson, a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom and MU student, to talk about the veteran writing group he formed.

Olson encourages student veterans and veterans in the community to express their experiences through writing.

Also KBIA’s Sofie Rasmussen spent time with Laura Pruitt of the Como Derby Dames.

Three times a week the Como Derby Dames – a women's roller derby team in Columbia – put on helmets, mouth guards and skates to practice for their weekly match – or bouts as they prefer to call it.

The Como Derby Dames are trying to raise enough money to purchase a new floor, to skate in Columbia again.

But one issue on this is that they have to go Jefferson City for each match, because they don’t have the facilities in Columbia. Playing in Jefferson City costs the team many fans and even teammates. They are trying to raise money to skate in Columbia again.
