Columbia City Council members have approved a runway extension project at Columbia Regional Airport, and Route H will be relocated to the northeast as a result.

The $3.3 million project includes a 900-foot extension and was approved by Columbia City Council in a unanimous vote Monday night. Airport manager Mike Parks said the majority of the funding will come from the Federal Aviation Administration’s Capital Improvement Plan.

“The FAA is providing 90 percent funding,” said Parks. “The remaining 10 percent funding will be shared between the city of Columbia and the state of Missouri,” airport manager Mike Parks said.

The 5 percent from Columbia will be provided by funds from the city’s transportation sales tax.
