Former Columbia Police Chief Ken Burton was arrested for driving while intoxicated Thursday night in Columbia.

Burton served as chief from April 2009 until last year. He was placed on administrative leave last December, resigning a week later.

Columbia city spokesperson Steven Sapp emailed this statement:

“At 8:18 PM on Thursday, May 2, a Columbia Police Department DWI Enforcement Officer had probable cause to initiate a vehicle traffic stop for suspicion of DWI at the intersection of Broadway and McBaine. The driver of the vehicle, Kenneth Burton, was issued a municipal summons for Driving While Intoxicated (DWI) and released.”
