Medical Marijuana Dispensary Clears Hurdle At Planning And Zoning Meeting

Columbia moved closer to having its first medical marijuana dispensary open Thursday when the Planning and Zoning Commission gave unanimous approval to revising the list of permitted uses for a property in east Columbia.

The Broadway Shops, located at 2703 E. Broadway , includes restaurants and businesses, and the approved proposal adds medical marijuana dispensaries to the property’s Statement of Intent.

The application, which marked the first potential dispensary to be considered by the commission, generated little discussion at the meeting Thursday night at the Daniel Boone City Building. Tim Crockett, the engineer who submitted the application, briefly testified in favor of the change.

“We think this is a fairly straightforward request,” Crockett said.

Jay Lindner, owner of The Broadway Shops, attended the commission meeting but he did not provide public comment.
