Missouri Bicentennial Celebration Planning Still Underway Amidst COVID-19

In the midst of a pandemic, Missouri Bicentennial celebrations are still planned statewide.

Missouri 2021 has planned celebrations all across Missouri throughout the month of August to commemorate the 200th anniversary of Missouri becoming a US state.

Michael Sweeney, the bicentennial coordinator said there are in-person events planned but these plans are subject to change and tentative.

"Now we have some bigger things we’re trying to plan for August of 2021. And as we’re thinking those out, we’re trying to think about three plans at once. One in which life is kind of back to normal, one in which nothing is back to normal and something in between.”

Sweeney said this is an opportunity, not only to celebrate Missouri’s history and an effort to better the future of Missouri.

Celebrations are planned in Columbia the weekend of August 6th, St. Charles on August 7th, Jefferson City on August 10th and part of the Missouri State fair in Sedalia from Aug 12th to 22nd.
