Alexander Cartwright joined the University of Missouri less than three years ago, in May 2017.

Chancellor Alexander Cartwright was selected as the next president of the University of Central Florida on Friday. The UCF Board of Trustees vote will need final approval by the Florida Board of Governors.

It was not immediately known whether Cartwright will take the job if approved.

However, University of Missouri System President Mun Choi and MU Provost Latha Ramchand said in an email to the campus, "We want to wish Dr. Cartwright well in his new endeavors at UCF."

Announcements about leadership transition plans will be shared next week, according to the email.

Cartwright, who has served as MU chancellor since 2017, was selected by the UCF Board of Trustees by a unanimous vote. He would take the reins and continue to don black and gold for one of the largest public universities in the country. It has over 69,000 students and more than 13,500 employees, according to the UCF website.
