MU has hired a University of Notre Dame administrator and Mizzou alum to be Vice Provost for Student Affairs, the university announced Monday.

William Stackman, who currently serves as Notre Dame's associate vice president for student services, will step into the role July 15, according to an announcement from Provost Latha Ramchand. Stackman will be taking over from Gary Ward, who has served as interim vice provost since May 2017.

Stackman received a master's degree in parks and recreation from MU in 1982 before obtaining a second master's in education administration from West Virginia University and a doctorate in educational leadership from Boston University, Ramchand's announcement said. It added that he has served as an administrator at Texas A&M, Rhodes College, Oberlin College, Tufts University and the University of Illinois.

In his new position, Stackman will oversee a wide variety of student-focused programming, services and positions, including Residential Life, MizzouRec, the Disability Center and Student Health & Well-Being. He will also oversee the Dean of Students, who supervises student accountability, fraternity and sorority life, student engagement and other programs and services.

Stackman has served in a similar capacity at Notre Dame since 2012. He oversees all student counseling and health operations at the university, and has served as the university's deputy Title IX coordinator.

A search committee, co-chaired by Jim Spain, vice provost for undergraduate studies. and Casandra Harper Morris, associate professor of educational leadership and policy analysis, used a list of criteria to evaluage applicants. MU also held several open forums with final candidates for the position in April.
