Thompson Center Hosting Comedians for Autism Awareness Event

The University of Missouri Thompson Center is hosting comedians Kathleen Madigan and Lewis Black on Monday to help raise awareness for autism.

The Arts for Autism Comedy Fundraiser will honor the work done at the Center in its efforts to “improve the lives of individuals and families affected by autism spectrum disorder and neurodevelopmental disorders.”

Communications Manager for the Center Nathan Hurst says that, in addition to the comedy show, there will also be a raffle for artwork created by patients at the Center.

“We’re selling some artwork done by patients at the Thompson Center,” Hurst said. “It’s amazing stuff.”

Madigan and Black previously performed in Columbia together in 2017.

Tickets are on sale on the Center’s website and currently start at $47.50. All proceeds will assist the Thompson Center in supporting patient care, autism research and training.

“We’re just really excited,” Hurst said. “We think it’s going to be a really fun night.”

According to its website, the Center desires to “improve the lives of individuals and families affected by autism spectrum disorder and neurodevelopmental disorders through world class programs that integrate research, clinical service delivery, education and public policy.”

The event is sponsored by MU Health and will begin at 7 p.m.
