U.S. Rep. Vicky Hartzler won re-election with 67 percent of the vote, defeating Democratic challenger Lindsey Simmons. Hartzler, the Republican incumbent, represents Missouri’s 4th Congressional District which stretches from Boone County through the western part of the state.
She was first elected to Congress in 2010. Before that, Hartzler served in the state legislature from 1995 to 2001.
She says she’s grateful voters have trusted her again. "We have more to do and I look forward to continuing to work for the people of this district to keep America strong and safe. I just want to thank them for the privilege of representing them for another two years,” Hartzler said.
Hartzler says one of her main goals going forward is expanding rural broadband in her district. “So many of our children cannot access their homework with the internet and senior citizens can’t access telehealth and people can’t work from home, and this is something we have got to get,” Hartzler said.
But it was not all good news for Hartzler. Democrats are projected to keep control of the House, placing her in the minority for a second consecutive term. Hartzler voted in person today in Harrisonville, where she lives, and spent the day with her husband calling constituents.
