Two Red Cross volunteers deploy on Thursday to the East Coast today with relief efforts still underway after Hurricane Sandy. The volunteers will be working in New Brunswik and White Plains, New York.

The American Red Cross, Heart of Missouri Chapter’s Mike Flanagan says the Red Cross deployed five volunteers with two American response vehicles last week. Now that the storm has calmed down, Flanagan says deployment will continue.

“We didn’t want to send people out there during the strength of the storm, didn’t want to put them in danger. So now that after storm has passed the calls come out for more volunteers and two of are going out today,” said Flanagan.

The American Red Cross deploys volunteers for a minimum of two weeks at a time, each person with a different assignment. For Hurricane Sandy, assignments include logistics, water and comfort kit distributors and mass feeding efforts.
